Sapphire Ice Cave Tour on Breiðamerkurjökull glacier, Iceland

Sapphire ice cave is located on Breiðamerkurjökull glacier. Although it is named after the sapphire gemstone, it takes on different tones of blue in the changing seasons. While in Winter it takes on the deep blue shade associated to sapphire, in Summer, its hue can be compared to that of aquamarine. This kaleidoscope of blue is surprisingly large with clear ice and lots of light, which makes it perfect for photography. It doesn’t matter if you are an amateur just taking photos with your phone or an experienced photographer with professional gear. It is almost impossible to take a bad picture in this cave. 

We will drive straight to the glacier in our Land Rover during this tour. Along the way, we will keep a close lookout for reindeer, who love grazing on these roads. Then, it will be an easy 20-minute walk straight to the ice cave.

We will spend around 45 minutes in the cave, depending on the day's conditions. This is plenty of time to take photos and revel in this natural marvel. Your guide will tell you all there is to know about the Icelandic glaciers and the formation of ice caves. Although other companies will likely be running tours in the cave at the same time, we will stay with our small group of 6 and make the most of the place as best as we can. This cave is a must-see!
