Kotor Bay is a stunning bay located in southwestern Montenegro on the Adriatic Sea. The bay is characterised by its steep mountains that plunge into the sea, forming dramatic scenery. On this tour, you’ll explore the Austro-Hungarian fortresses located in the mountains of the bay, learning about their history while enjoying the amazing views!

You’ll begin your journey by meeting the experienced guide at the starting point in Kotor Old Town. The guide will welcome you on board the safe and comfortable Jeep, which seats up to 6 passengers. Then, you will embark on a 15-minute scenic drive along a mountain road, before arriving at the first stop of the tour. The first stop is an ideal viewpoint, where you can see Old Town Kotor below and the stunning coastline.

After taking in the views, you’ll continue driving along the road until you reach the historic Gorazde Fortress. It is believed that the fortress was built during the medieval period in the 14th century, strategically positioned on a hill overlooking the Drina River to control trade routes and provide defence against potential invaders. Many battles were fought here, and the guide will tell stories about its history. While the guide shares insights about the fortress, you’ll enjoy a delicious hot coffee while overlooking the bay below. 

The guide will continue driving, navigating off-road routes and rugged terrains. You’ll arrive at Vrmac Fortress, another historical fortress situated at an elevation of around 460 meters (1,509 feet). This location offers an amazing panoramic view of the mountains and the coastline of Tivat Bay. Here, you’ll enjoy a picnic with local authentic cuisine, sampling a variety of Montenegrin dishes. The guide will continue to share facts about the history of Vrmac Fortress while you overlook the beautiful sea.

On the return journey, you’ll pass by the scenic roads known as the "Ways of King Nikola," which offer glimpses of Montenegro's regal history. This historic route connects several important cultural and historical sites associated with King Nikola Petrović-Njegoš, who ruled Montenegro from 1860 to 1918. The key sites include the Royal Palace (the former residence of King Nikola) in Cetinje, King Nikola's birthplace (the King's Palace) in Njeguši Village, and Lovćen National Park. After passing the captivating surroundings, you’ll return to the starting point at Kotor Old Town.
