About the activity

Situated just a few miles north of the Arctic Circle and right in the centre of the Northern Lights oval, Tromsø is one of the best spots to witness one of the most magical Aurora shows dancing right above you!

Your Northern Lights chase adventure begins at the meeting point in Tromsø, where you will meet your guides, and have the opportunity to rent warm winter clothing or a tripod for the experience. Once you're ready, you'll set off on your chase for the Northern Lights from Tromsø! Your guide will follow the most optimal directions based on the Aurora forecast, to maximize your visibility. You will be chasing low light pollution areas, and staying away from the clouds to obtain the best viewing possibilities. Take in the breathtaking Arctic scenery while your experienced guides track down the best spots for you to experience this mesmerising phenomenon.

Once you've found the perfect spot, you will head out and warm up with steaming warm drinks and biscuits as you wait for the Auroras to take the stage! Take out your camera and take pictures in front of the most scenic backdrops in the Arctic. Your experienced Northern Lights hunters and professional photographers will help you adjust your camera settings for the perfect shot, as well as take professional pictures that you'll be able to download after the experience, so you can remember it forever.

The duration of the overall chase depends entirely on the weather and Aurora forecast. As the weather in Tromsø can be unpredictable, your adventure may continue to various spots throughout the night, driving along awe-inspiring locations under the Arctic night sky. However, usually, the experience tends to last 6 to 7 hours, which means you won't be returning to Tromsø before midnight.

Take in the beautiful starry sky and marvel at one of nature's most astounding visual phenomena in the Arctic Circle. Book your Northern Lights Chase in Tromsø now!

Went on a large coach bus. The good: the bus was comfortable and it was a good driver. The bad: the bus was so big it was difficult to get anywhere (hard to turn around, hard to park, etc.). When chasing the auroras, mobility is good, as is communication. Our guide did not really tell us where we were going, what was happening, etc. We drove two hours to one locale at the side of a road with at least dark conditions, stopped for a bit, but saw nothing, then drove another two hours to another locale which was a schoolyard with blazing overhead lights (you want darkness to see the auroras). There could have been auroras there and we would not have seen them. The weather was not ideal, but I did another tour the next night with a different company in even worse weather and it was leagues better, and we found an awesome spot with a clearing in the weather and saw some of the best auroras I've seen. Overall, it was a bit of a waste of a night.
