About the activity
Skibotn is a small village located in Norway, in the northern part of the country close to the Arctic Circle. The region experiences typical Arctic winters, with long, dark nights and snowy conditions. The beautiful valley is surrounded by hills and mountains, a stunning sight to behold. It is also one of the best places in the world for witnessing the awe-inspiring Northern Lights.
Once you arrive at the camp, you will meet your experienced dog musher and the friendly Alaskan Huskies that will accompany you through this must-do winter experience. The guide will go through a safety briefing and driving lesson, so you are well-equipped to drive your own dog team. You will dress in warm Arctic clothing and get set up on the sled, each sled being shared between 2 participants, 1 driver and 1 passenger, with the opportunity to switch midway. Then, you will lead your dog team into the pine forests that surround the kennels! With the Lyngen Alps, a magnificent mountain range, behind you, you will glide across the snowy terrain and experience a peaceful afternoon in Norway.
Away from the light pollution of the city, there is a high chance of witnessing the amazing Aurora Borealis during the polar night season. There will be a break during the ride, not only to change places between drivers and passengers, but also to admire this beautiful dance of colours if you have the chance to spot it and capture some photos. After this short break, you will head back to the kennels, ready to go back to Tromsø.
This afternoon self-drive dog sledding safari is a great opportunity to experience the serene Arctic wilderness in Skibotn Valley from Tromsø. So don't wait much longer and book it now to enjoy the Norwegian wilderness!
