About the activity

Skibotn is a small village located in the far north of Norway, approximately 80 km (50 miles) east of Tromsø. The region is known for its stunning landscapes and typical Arctic nature. Like many locations in northern Norway, Skibotn also offers opportunities to witness the amazing Northern Lights during the winter months. The dark nights and relatively low light pollution make it a favourable location for experiencing this natural phenomenon.

The excursion begins in the evening, as the sun is setting. When you arrive at the camp, you will meet your experienced guide. You will start with driving instructions and a safety briefing. Beginners are welcome on this easy snowmobiling tour! After receiving your equipment and Arctic gear, you will set off into the dark, starry night.

Driving in pairs (with one driver and one passenger and the chance to switch midway), you will follow your guide into the thick pine forests that surround the camp. You will drive over the snowy terrain beneath the moonlight. If you are lucky, the magical dance of the Aurora Borealis will appear in the sky above you. There is a high chance of witnessing the beautiful Northern Lights in this area, away from the lights of the city. The guide will take you to a nice viewpoint where you can capture some photos. After switching drivers, you will drive back to the starting point.

Some delicious snacks and hot drinks will be served when you return to the camp. As you warm up, be sure to take in the calm atmosphere and gaze at the night sky. The guide will share some interesting facts about this natural phenomenon, as well as the history of the region. After relaxing for a bit, you will return to Tromsø.

Amazing experience with the snowmobile! Thermal suit and boots provided kept us super warm. The refreshments provided after were delicious too! They had vegan and non-vegan options available. Only issue was the timing. Our pickup was supposed to be at 5:30pm but the bus only came at 6:30pm. The drive to the location was a bit far as well and we only got there around 9+pm. By the time we started, it was already 10+pm. Due to the delay, we only got back to Tromso around 3am in the morning. It was lucky we didn't have anything planned the next morning! Other than that, it was an amazing experience overall, would definitely recommend it!

Es hat Spaß gemacht, hätte aber ruhig länger sein können. Bei 2 Stunden Anfahrt sind 20 min pro Person auf dem Motorschlitten echt kurz.
