Massifs such as the Sassolungo and Sciliar are coral reefs that formed in the subtropical ocean during the Paleozoic Era: each mountain in the Dolomites has its story to tell.
The site of the Dolomites includes a wide mountain range in the northern Italian Alps, numbering 18 peaks which rise to above 3,000 meters and some of the rock cliffs rise more than 1,500 m.
