To glide across the tranquil waters of Biscarrosse by kayak or canoe is to experience the Landes region from an entirely new perspective. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the lush pine forests of southwestern France, Biscarrosse is renowned for its vast network of lakes, winding waterways and proximity to the wild beauty of the Côte d’Argent. The area’s three main lakes—Lac de Biscarrosse et de Parentis, Lac de Biscarrosse-Sanguinet and the smaller Lac de Cazaux—offer a mosaic of shimmering blue, edged by golden sand and fragrant maritime pines. Here, the rhythm of life slows, and the gentle lapping of water against the hull becomes your soundtrack. Whether you seek the open expanse of the lakes, the intimacy of hidden creeks, or the invigorating breeze from the Atlantic, Biscarrosse invites you to discover its aquatic landscapes in a way that is both immersive and deeply connected to nature.

Paddling in Biscarrosse is a dynamic experience, shaped by the diversity of its waterways and the subtle changes in light and weather. Beginners and seasoned paddlers alike can explore routes that range from leisurely circuits along the calm, glassy surfaces of Lac de Sanguinet, where the morning mist hovers above the water, to more adventurous journeys that follow the meandering Courant de Biscarrosse towards the ocean. The sensation of gliding over clear, shallow stretches reveals sandy bottoms and darting fish, while reed-fringed banks shelter herons and kingfishers. Some routes wind through shaded inlets, where the scent of pine mingles with the cool air, while others open onto wide, sunlit bays, offering panoramic views of the Landes coastline. The contrast between peaceful, sheltered coves and the invigorating challenge of paddling against a gentle breeze ensures that every outing is unique. Most excursions last between one and three hours, allowing time to pause, swim, or simply drift and absorb the sounds of nature.

Local guides and instructors in Biscarrosse are passionate ambassadors for their region, combining technical expertise with a genuine love for the outdoors. All outings are led by licensed professionals who provide high-quality kayaks or canoes, paddles, buoyancy aids and, when needed, waterproof bags for personal belongings. Safety is a priority, with thorough briefings on paddling techniques, local conditions and environmental respect. The outdoor culture here is inclusive and welcoming, rooted in a tradition of sharing the Landes’ natural treasures with visitors. Logistics are straightforward, with easy access to launch points, secure parking and facilities for rinsing equipment after your adventure. Whether you are new to kayaking or an experienced canoeist, you will find the support and guidance needed to enjoy the water with confidence.

The best time to enjoy kayaking and canoeing in Biscarrosse is from late spring through early autumn, when the weather is mild and the lakes are at their most inviting. Water temperatures rise comfortably by June, and the long daylight hours allow for extended exploration. Most routes are accessible to beginners, though a reasonable level of physical fitness is recommended, as paddling can be demanding over longer distances or in breezy conditions. Families, couples, solo travellers and groups of friends will all find options suited to their interests and abilities. For those seeking a gentle introduction, guided tours offer a relaxed pace and plenty of opportunities to learn, while more experienced paddlers can venture further afield, exploring the interconnected lakes and rivers that define the Biscarrosse landscape.

There is a quiet magic to discovering Biscarrosse from the water, where every paddle stroke reveals a new facet of this remarkable region. Whether you are drawn by the promise of adventure, the serenity of nature, or the simple pleasure of being outdoors, kayaking and canoeing here offer an experience that is both memorable and accessible. Let Manawa help you unlock the best of Biscarrosse’s waterways, guided by local professionals who know these lakes and rivers intimately and are eager to share their passion with you.

It was really fun and felt very safe. The location is beautiful and great for surfing. Everyone in our group was a beginner, but we all managed to stand on the board and surf. We all want to do more surfing after this.
