What are the activities to do in Bordeaux?
The Pearl of the Aquitaine is a fabulous combination of culture, magnificent architecture and extreme sports!
It’s absolutely impossible to speak about wine and not mention Bordeaux. Internationally famous for its Grand Crus, Bordeaux began its wine production as early as the 8th century. In 1981 the city began hosting its wine fair, Vinexpo, which has gone on to become the biggest and most visited wine fair in the world.
The renowned drink is best savoured with local specialities, making Bordeaux a must visit for gourmets fans everywhere, its delicious food and outstanding wine attracts millions of tourists every year.
However, the gastronomy and wine are only one aspect of Bordeaux, there are countless others. Bordeaux is classified as a city brimming with culture, history and art, its architecture rivals that of Paris and the older areas of Bordeaux are part of the UNESCO world heritage.
The fact that it’s a port sitting on the Garonne River only adds to its charm and makes Bordeaux a great starting point for outdoor activities in the surroundings and in the wider region. For example, famous surfing spots of Lacanau, Montalivet and Cap ferret are just a short drive away, and so are many kitesurfing and windsurfing spots thanks to the frequent windy days. Dune du Pyla is another favourite with paragliders, whilst the regions boasts some of the best skydiving drop-zones of the country!
You just need to go easy on the wine before starting your next adrenaline activity!
