Nestled on the sun-drenched southwest coast of Gran Canaria, Puerto Rico is a gateway to some of the island’s most captivating seascapes. Sea kayaking here offers a unique perspective on the volcanic coastline, where ochre cliffs meet the deep blue of the Atlantic and hidden coves reveal themselves only to those who travel by water. The gentle rhythm of the waves, the salt-tinged breeze, and the ever-changing play of light on the ocean create an atmosphere that is both invigorating and serene. With its sheltered bay, proximity to the dramatic cliffs of Mogán, and easy access to secluded beaches, Puerto Rico de Gran Canaria stands out as an exceptional destination for kayaking enthusiasts seeking both adventure and tranquillity.

Setting out from the golden sands of Puerto Rico’s main beach, paddlers glide along a coastline sculpted by time and the elements. The experience is defined by contrasts: the calm, crystalline waters of the bay give way to more open stretches where the Atlantic’s energy is palpable. Typical routes might lead west towards Playa de Amadores, where turquoise shallows invite a pause, or further along to the striking sea caves near Taurito. Each journey reveals new textures—the rough volcanic rock, the smooth drift of water beneath the kayak, the warmth of the sun on your skin. Depending on the chosen route and pace, outings can last from a gentle hour’s exploration to half-day adventures, with opportunities to snorkel, swim, or simply drift and listen to the distant call of seabirds. The activity is accessible yet rewarding, offering moments of quiet reflection as well as bursts of physical challenge when rounding a headland or navigating gentle swells.

I really enjoyed the activity, nice way to see the coast of the island and see the less touristy spots. We saw some baby lemon sharks and a sea turtle while out on the water.
