On the northern coast of Fuerteventura, Corralejo stands as a gateway to the island’s wild Atlantic beauty, making it a prime destination for Stand Up Paddling. Here, the interplay of volcanic landscapes and crystalline waters creates a setting that feels both untamed and inviting. The town itself, once a fishing village, now pulses with a laid-back energy, where the scent of salt and the sound of waves are ever-present. With the iconic dunes of the Corralejo Natural Park to the south and the silhouette of Isla de Lobos offshore, this corner of the Canary Islands offers a unique blend of scenery and atmosphere for anyone seeking to explore the ocean by paddleboard.

Practising Stand Up Paddleboarding in Corralejo is an experience shaped by contrasts. Early mornings often bring calm, glassy seas, ideal for beginners or those seeking a meditative glide along the shoreline. More experienced paddlers can venture further, tracing the rugged volcanic coast towards the harbour or crossing the channel to Isla de Lobos, where the water shifts from deep blue to shimmering turquoise over sandy shallows. Sessions typically last between one and two hours, with routes adapted to the day’s wind and swell. The sensation of standing above the water, feeling the gentle roll of the Atlantic beneath your feet, is both grounding and exhilarating. On quieter days, the only sounds are the rhythmic splash of your paddle and the distant calls of seabirds, while livelier conditions invite a more dynamic, playful approach to the sport.

Local guides in Corralejo are seasoned professionals, deeply familiar with the island’s waters and weather patterns. They provide high-quality boards, paddles, and safety gear, ensuring each session is tailored to the group’s ability and the prevailing conditions. Instruction is clear and supportive, with a focus on technique, safety, and respect for the marine environment. The outdoor culture here is inclusive and welcoming, shaped by decades of surfing, windsurfing, and other water sports. Logistics are straightforward, with easy access to the main beaches, changing facilities, and secure storage for personal belongings.

Stand Up Paddling in Corralejo is accessible to most people with a reasonable level of fitness, regardless of previous experience. The mild climate means the activity can be enjoyed year-round, though spring and autumn often offer the most favourable conditions—gentle breezes, warm water, and fewer crowds. Sessions are suitable for solo travellers, families with older children, and groups of friends. While beginners are welcome, a basic ability to swim and a moderate level of physical stamina are recommended to make the most of the experience.

After constantly falling in the water when trying windsurfing a few years ago, I thought I'd try something easier. I liked SUP because it is a good way to travel on the water, not too strenuous but is good exercise, can be made more challenging with stand up paddle surfing, touring, racing. I'm a fit 65 year old and found the two-hour lesson well within my capabilities.

The activity was a great experience! There was a very clear explaination of the verhicle and from the beginning on we knew exactly where to go and what to expect. It was a great adventure. We really liked that we got the opportunity to switch drivers. It was also amazing that we could go full speed, in a save way.
Snorkeling was great and all age groups were catered for
