Course of events
- You will be picked up from your accommodation in Mindelo between 06:10 and 06:30, or meet your guide directly at the ferry terminal entrance at 06:30
- At 07:00, the ferry departs from São Vicente to Porto Novo, Santo Antão (approx. 1-hour crossing)
- Upon arrival around 08:00, a scenic drive takes you up the mountains via the Old Cobblestone Road to the crater rim of Cova de Paúl
- From the crater, your guided hike begins: a 5 km descent through the lush Paúl Valley, one of the greenest and most fertile areas in Cape Verde
- Along the 2–3 hour trail, you’ll pass through traditional villages, tropical fruit plantations (mango, banana, sugarcane), and meet local farmers and animals
- Take in panoramic views, stop for photos, and enjoy learning about local life and farming traditions in the Island of the Mountains
- Around 13:00, enjoy a well-deserved lunch at a local restaurant (not included, approx. €10–20, cash only)
- After lunch, visit a local grogue distillery to discover Cape Verde’s traditional sugarcane rum and taste it
- At 15:20, transfer back to Porto Novo for the ferry
- The 16:00 ferry returns to Mindelo, arriving around 17:00
- End the day with a drop-off at your accommodation in Mindelo
