About the activity

Experience the thrill of riding at full speed over the snow and exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Finnish Lapland on this wonderful snowmobile safari from Ivalo! Surrounded by incredible Arctic nature, Ivalo is a village in northeastern Finland. With snowy forests, open fells, frozen lakes and rivers, and wildlife such as reindeer, moose or foxes, this winter wonderland is perfect for spending a morning or an afternoon riding a snowmobile.

On the day of your snowmobile excursion from Ivalo, your instructor offers a transportation service from various locations around Ivalo (please check special terms). You can also arrive at the Northern Lights Riders headquarters by yourself. Once there, your instructor will distribute the thermal overalls, shoes, gloves, and balaclavas, so you can gear up. When you're ready, your instructor will give you a thorough safety briefing and teach you exactly how to drive the eco-friendly snowmobiles you will use during the experience.

Once you're ready, it's time to go! You'll drive for a total of 2 to 2.5 hours, exploring beautiful snowy landscapes and enjoying the fresh Arctic air of Finnish Lapland. During the experience, you might be able to spot some wildlife like reindeer or foxes, and you'll be able to stop to take pictures or to take a break to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the Arctic. You'll also get to enjoy some hot juice and biscuits to keep you warm.

Keep in mind that temperatures in the Arctic can range from 5 to -30 degrees Celsius, so to prepare for this wonderful snowmobile excursion from Ivalo, your instructor recommends bringing wool or thermal under layers, good middle layers, and a winter jacket that you can wear under the thermal suit if it's very cold, as well as sunglasses to protect your eyes from the brightness of the snow. Snowmobile drivers should also bring a physical copy of their driver's license.

First time on a snowmobile, definitely recommended! The frozen Ivalo river gives you a long, smooth surface to drive on so you can go quite fast, and the drive through the woods was very fun too.

We had a great time on the 31,4km track. Making speed on the river and then driving through the woods was a great experience! We had some warm drink and cookies on a hill with a beautiful view!
