Hiking to Korouoma Canyon in Lapland near Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi is the capital city of Lapland, located in northern Finland close to the Arctic Circle. The Posio Forest is located 160km from central Rovaniemi. This hike will take place at Korouoma Canyon, a series of waterfalls on a 5km circuit along The Koronjää trail - leading past stunning viewpoints with three massive frozen waterfalls; Charlie Brown, Mammoth Fall, and Brown River.

The adventure begins at the activity base in Rovaniemi for this full-day scenic hiking excursion (pickup is available from selective hotels). You will meet your experienced guide, who will go through the itinerary for the day. Arctic clothing and ice grippers for your shoes will be provided to ensure you can hike in comfort and safety. Once you are prepared, the trip begins!

The guide will lead you into the Arctic wilderness, discovering the raw beauty of the region along the way! Set to a leisurely pace, the 5km circle route runs clockwise along an old horse track and you can get in touch with the history of the area from the expert guide. You will hike through the picturesque location, where snow-laden trees bend to the will of Mother Nature, creating a winter wonderland. Soon, you will reach the infamous Korouoma Frozen Waterfalls, a once-in-a-lifetime site to behold. This is a popular ice climbing setting, so you may see hardy mountaineers practising on its 100m ice shafts!

Midway through the excursion, you will stop for a traditional campfire BBQ meal of reindeer sandwich, mushroom soup, Lappish hard bread, marshmallows and hot blueberry juice (vegetarian/vegan alternative available upon request). Experience the traditional cuisine of the Arctic Circle while keeping warm around an open fire. Making your way back to your transport before dusk, the return journey will drop you off at your accommodation where your adventure will end.
