About the activity

Rovaniemi is the capital and largest city of Lapland, known for its unique location and vibrant cultural scene. Situated close to the Arctic Circle, the region features Arctic winters and is surrounded by pristine wilderness, including forests, lakes, and rivers. The adventure begins at the husky kennel in Rovaniemi (pick-up is available from specific locations upon booking, please check special terms). You will meet your experienced guide, who will introduce you to the adorable and friendly huskies. The guide will then give you a safety briefing and mushing lesson, before setting up the sled. Each sled can hold 2 adults and a maximum of 2 children. In addition, there is also an option for 1 adult per dog sled, at an additional fee. The sled will be driven by an adult, with the opportunity to switch drivers midway if you wish. A team of 4-6 huskies will pull your sled and once the team is set up, the adventure begins!

Under the instruction of the guide, you will set off into the snowy forest surrounding the kennels. The dogs will pull you on a thrilling dash while you discover the winter wonderland that is Finnish Lapland. You will experience the natural beauty and enchantment of the Arctic environment. This dog sled ride around Rovaniemi will last approximately 45 minutes (6-10km), so it is perfect for families with small children who don't want to be in the cold outdoors for too long.

After the ride, you will return to the kennels. There will be time to interact with the dogs. Hot berry juice and cookies will be served around a warm campfire, while your guide shares stories and insights about life in the region. When you've warmed up, you will say goodbye to your furry friends and return to your original pickup point for the end of your self-drive dog sledding excursion from Rovaniemi!
