Spend a morning meeting adorable, well-trained dogs, and try one of the Arctic's most iconic experiences on this kennel visit and dog sledding ride from Rovaniemi! Dog sledding is an ancient practice in the Arctic climates of the world, used mostly for practical transportation in the snowy landscapes of the very northern hemisphere. Finnish Lapland and its capital, Rovaniemi, are located in the Arctic Circle and boast incredible, untouched landscapes that are covered in snow for a large portion of the year, which makes them the perfect place to experience winter activities such as Northern Lights hunts, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and, of course, dog sledding.
On the day of your dog sledding ride from Rovaniemi, you'll have the chance to be picked up in diverse places around Rovaniemi and Sinettä, between 90 and 20 minutes before the starting time of the experience. They'll take you to the Bearhill Husky headquarters, where you'll meet the expert musher (dog sled driver) who will accompany you throughout the day. They'll explain the itinerary for the activity and give you a few safety rules to follow to have fun with the dogs and out on the sled
Once you're ready, the adventure will start! You'll enter the husky kennel and spend some time getting to know the adorable dogs that live there, as your instructor tells you about their training system and history in the region. Then, they'll prepare the sleds for the ride and once you're comfortably seated and warm with the blankets they provide, you'll enjoy riding over the snow, led by powerful and energetic huskies and guided by the expert guide who knows the territory very well. You'll finish the day back at the kennel with hot juice and cookies, before returning to where you were picked up.
Keep in mind that the sleds only have a capacity for 4 guests, so if your group is bigger, you will have to be split into different sleds. Also, if you travel alone, it is very likely that you will have to join an existing group in order to participate. Finally, this experience can take place in the late fall or early spring, moments when there isn't enough snow on the ground to use the sleds; however, your instructor will adapt and use a wheeled cart, so you can still participate and enjoy this 2-hour kennel visit and dog sledding ride from Rovaniemi.
Don't miss out on one of the best experiences available in the Arctic, and explore the landscapes of Finnish Lapland with adorable, energetic, highly trained guides. Book your kennel visit and 5km dog sledding ride from Rovaniemi today!
