On this hiking trip in Pyhä-Luosto National Park, you'll depart from Rovaniemi, the capital city of Finnish Lapland, and visit the iconic Lampivaara Amethyst Mine!

The small-group trip begins with pick-up from the starting point in Rovaniemi or your accommodation in the city (please specify when booking). Upon arrival, you'll meet the experienced guide and embark on a 1.5-hour scenic drive to Pyhä-Luosto. At the park, you'll begin the hike to Lampivaara Amethyst Mine! You'll enter the forest, home to the oldest pine trees in Finland, with some over 400 years old.

Following the expert guide, you'll explore the lush greenery and hike to the top of one of the fells, where you'll have a spectacular view of the never-ending horizon! The park is known for its ancient fells, deep gorges, and vast pine forests, offering a perfect mix of rugged landscapes and peaceful wilderness. In summer, you'll be treated to endless daylight and beautiful nature, while in autumn, the park showcases breathtaking colours!

The hike in Pyhä-Luosto National Park continues to Lampivaara Amethyst Mine, a unique attraction where you can dig for real Lappish amethysts. The mine is nestled in one of the hilltops, only reachable by foot during summer. You'll tour the mine and learn about local geology and the formation of the precious gems. At the end of the tour, you'll get the chance to dig for your own amethyst. If the stone fits in the palm of your hand, you can keep it as a souvenir! Afterwards, the guide will prepare a typical Finnish snack and hot drinks, which you'll enjoy around a campfire. Then, you'll hike back to the starting point for your return drive to Rovaniemi.
