About the activity
Since 1995, the professional and passionate team at Base Canyon de la Besorgues has guided over 800 people on abseiling routes in the Ardèche Gorges. Specialists in abseiling, they will meet you at the Autridge viewpoint, close to Vallon-Pont-d’Arc and just a few metres from the scenic road through the Gorges.
A remarkable natural site, the Autridge rock rises more than 230 metres above the river. The surrounding wild, green landscapes provide a breathtaking backdrop to this vertiginous setting. If you want to experience the sheer verticality of this incredible location, this giant abseil in the Ardèche is unmatched. Accessible to sporty participants with no prior abseiling experience required, the activity does require a willingness to descend without fear and to hike back up a steep path to the starting point.
The experience begins with a 2-minute approach walk, followed by a briefing from your qualified climbing instructor covering the activity, equipment, and safety rules. You will then enjoy a 180-metre abseil down into the Ardèche Gorges. For comfort and safety, the descent is carried out in groups of up to 5 people, using a comfortable abseiling seat to complement the harness. At the end of the descent, you will reach a ledge 70 metres above the Ardèche River, before following a steep hiking trail back to the car park.
Not afraid of heights? Then don’t wait—book your giant abseil down the Autridge Pillar and experience the Ardèche in a truly spectacular and sporty way!
