As the Aven des Côtes is blocked by a sump — a submerged underground passage — you'll need to retrace your steps to make your way back out. This return leg is considerably more physically demanding, involving crawling sections, downclimbing, and the inevitable presence of mud.

For your comfort and safety, the team at Base Canyon de la Besorgues will provide all the necessary equipment for the activity (helmet with headtorch, caving suit, boots, and harness). An instructor will be with you throughout the route to guide you and share their knowledge of caving in the Ardèche.
