About the activity

Rich in biodiversity, Tahiti’s waters provide an exceptional environment for exploration diving in French Polynesia. If you hold a Level 1 diving certification or higher, a trip to Tahiti is the perfect opportunity to discover the unique marine life that inhabits Polynesian waters.

You will have the pleasure of diving at exclusive sites that are rarely visited by dive centres from Punaauia, meaning you will often be alone on the site and able to enjoy its remarkable marine life in complete tranquillity.

Located between Paea and Papara, these dive sites feature stunning drop-offs—sometimes dramatic and vertiginous—teeming with marine life. You can expect to encounter numerous sea turtles and reef fish, and it is not uncommon to spot white-tip reef sharks, nurse sharks and leopard rays.

You will board a comfortable dive boat directly on site (a 28’ ARE cruiser accommodating up to 14 divers, with shaded areas, seating and storage). Depending on weather conditions and your certification level, Mobydick Diving will take you to one of the following dive sites:

  • Fausse Passe de Rohotu – from Level 1

A spectacular, near-vertical drop-off stretching seemingly endlessly into the deep, home to abundant marine life including whip corals, soldierfish, hawksbill turtles, nudibranchs and many green turtles. It is sometimes possible to enter the false pass to observe parrotfish during their spawning period.

  • Turtle Dormitory – from Level 1

Located in Papara, this dramatic drop-off features intricate relief and curves. The coral is in excellent condition, including on the reef flat, and the site hosts a rich variety of marine life. Numerous green turtles use the many crevices as shelter, and nurse sharks are often seen here.

  • Paea Vault – from Level 1

A magnificent drop-off extending down to 34 metres, where a large vault provides shaded hideaways filled with marine life. You can observe beautiful fixed fauna, including many yellow gorgonians. The site is frequented by green and hawksbill turtles.

  • Fausse Passe de Paea (Governor’s Pass) – from Level 1 with experience

A drift dive carried out in calm sea conditions. The dive begins in the lagoon, where the current gently carries you towards a beautiful pass often frequented by leopard rays swimming against the flow. The dive ends along a lovely drop-off featuring small vaults. Turtles and white-tip reef sharks are regularly encountered.

  • Mount Turbinaria (Lagoon) – from Level 1

An impressive coral formation in Tahiti’s lagoon, notable for its size anddepth, descending to over 25 metres and allowing for multi-level dives. The dive follows a loop through a forest of turbinaria corals—large, cone-shaped coral formations lining the walls.

With water temperatures ranging from 25 to 30°C throughout the year and an average visibility of around 20 metres, your exploration dive in Tahiti is guaranteed to be a breathtaking experience. For your safety, a certified dive guide (PADI, SSI or CMAS) will accompany you throughout the dive, sharing their knowledge of each site with professionalism and enthusiasm.

Each dive lasts approximately 45 to 55 minutes, and if one dive isn’t enough, you can choose to add a second dive with your instructor for even more underwater exploration.

If you are a certified diver looking to explore new dive sites in Tahiti, don’t hesitate—book this unforgettable diving experience today!
