Course of events
- Meeting with the guide in the car park at the Sólheimajökull glacier
- Approach walk to the Sólheimajökull glacier (approx. 15 minutes)
- Briefing on the activity and safety instructions before getting kitted out
- 1.5-hour excursion on the ice
- De-equipping and return to the car park to finish the activity
Activity requirements
Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
Hiking boots must be worn: it will not be possible to add the crampons required for the activity to other footwear.
It is very important to wear warm clothing, preferably waterproof, so that you can enjoy the excursion to the full.
Special terms
Please give yourself plenty of time to drive from Reykjavík: in good conditions, the journey takes just over 2 hours without stops, but with poor weather or road conditions, the journey will take longer.

Go for a glacier hike near Vík í Mýrdal on the Sólheimajökull glacier!
A not-to-be-missed stop on Iceland's circular route, the Sólheimajökull glacier is an easy introduction to glacier trekking near Vík í Mýrdal, from the age of 8. Equipped with all the specific equipment needed for the activity, you will follow an experienced guide on the ice who will show you a frozen world that is always in motion, while telling you about the history and evolution of this glacier, which is one of the glacier tongues of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap.
For around 1.5 hour, you will set off on a glacier hike on the Sólheimajökull glacier, with its labyrinth of ice ridges, deep crevasses and sinkholes reflecting its history. If you are lucky, you might even come across some volcanic ashes from the infamous eruption of Eyjafjalljökull in 2010!
