Activity Snapshot
Activity description
Discover an authentic Arctic ranch and find out what it's really like to be a Norwegian cowboy! Learn the ropes of managing a ranch, caring for the horses, and riding in the countryside!
Just 10 minutes away from Alta city centre, Flatmoen Farm lies on the brink of the wild backcountry. It keeps beautiful Norwegian Fjord Horses, a sturdy breed of horse that has existed in the Arctic for centuries. On this excursion, your guide will pick you up directly from the city to head out to the farm.
Once there, your day will revolve entirely around the horses and farm life. You will first meet the horses and befriend them while grooming them. Once they are brushed up nicely, it will be time to get the tack on in preparation for a day of riding. With saddles, bridles, and cowboy hats on, you and your guide will head out into the beautiful Summer Arctic for a ride through plains, woodlands, and rivers. This excursion will go at your pace. Depending on your level, you will walk, trot, or gallop at your own leisure.
Along the way, you will make a stop to enjoy a pleasant lunch in the middle of the wilderness. Feel like a true cowboy as you lie in the long grass, sipping on a cup of coffee with nothing but your fjord horses for company.
After lunch, you'll head back to the ranch, where you will unsaddle your horse and rest after your great Norwegian cowboy adventure.
Discovering the wilderness by horse is a truly unique experience. Flatmoen Farm's horses are calm, friendly, and a joy to ride. Come and meet them soon!
The duration of this activity (from pick up to drop off in Alta) can be between 4 and 8 hours, depending on your wishes, level, and the weather.
