Snowmobile Excursion under the Northern Lights from Alta

Skid through the vast mountain plateau of Finnmark under the dazzling Northern Lights on this exhilarating snowmobile outing!

Finnmark is home to Europe's largest mountain plateau, offering 360 panoramic views over the Arctic desert. Zoom around and let the cold air fill your lungs as you revel in the total emptiness of the snow-covered valleys. At night, away from the light pollution, this area lies under a mesmerizing field of stars. If we're lucky, green flames will appear to dance above us as we drive our snowmobiles up the surrounding mountains. The aurora borealis is a must-see for travellers in the Arctic, and there is no better place to spot them than this immense valley of snow. 

You will meet your guides at their base in Alta, and then drive 30 minutes to Gargia Lodge. There, you will be equipped with thermosuits, boots, and gloves. Then, after a safety briefing, you will head off on your snowmobiles and drive them all the way to the Beskades mountain range situated on the edge of Finnmarksvidda. You will stop there to enjoy the stunning views over Norway's night sky, with some hot drinks and snacks. You will then head back to the lodge, and drive safely back to Alta.

This trip requires you to bring nothing but your driver's permit and a camera (and perhaps a woolly scarf). We offer the possibility to use an individual snowmobile or to share with a passenger. In the latter, there will be chances to exchange roles midway so that both get to experience driving the snowmobile.
