Fancy exploring the heart of the Arctic forests in a more original way than by sleigh or snowmobile? Then this winter horseback ride in Alta is just for you! It is not common to find riding centres offering guided tours during the coldest months of the year, so you won’t want to miss this opportunity provided by Flatmoen Natur, located about 5 hours and 30 minutes by car from Tromsø. This small family-run business owns only a handful of horses, most of them Fjord horses native to Norway, ensuring a warm, friendly experience. Whether you already have several hours of riding under your belt or have never been in the saddle before, this activity is open to all levels from the age of 12.
This horseback ride in Alta will take you through the forest for around 2 hours, along the Alta River, following an experienced instructor who will adjust the pace to suit the level of the group of up to 5 participants. Complete beginners will enjoy a walk-only outing, while more experienced riders may be able to trot or even gallop if they feel comfortable and if everyone in the group can do so. The aim is for you to make the most of this winter adventure! You will also take a short break during the ride to warm up for a moment by a fire and chat with your guide over a cup of coffee and something sweet to snack on. Between the friendly atmosphere, the connection with the horses and the breathtaking snowy landscapes, you can be sure you will have a wonderful time! And who knows, you might even spot the king of the Arctic forests, the moose!
For animal and nature lovers, this activity is not to be missed if you are travelling through the county of Finnmark. So don’t wait any longer to book your winter horseback ride in Alta now!
