Situated on the shores of the Bøkfjorden, Kirkenes is located in northeastern Norway, within the Arctic Circle. Known for its diverse marine life, as well as its mountainous and unique landscapes, Kirkenes is a popular destination for those looking to immerse themselves in a winter wonderland. In addition, it is one of the best places in Scandinavia to view the incredible natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights!
Your adventure begins in Kirkenes, where you will be picked up at either the Thon or Scandic Hotels (please specify when booking), unless you are already at the Snowhotel, which is where the experience starts. After a 15-20 minute drive to the Snowhotel, you'll put on your gear, including thermal overalls and boots. After a safety and itinerary briefing, the fun starts! You'll set out far away from the light pollution of the city, driving east toward Finland or south toward the Pasvik valley, depending on the weather conditions of the night. Once you've found the perfect spot, you'll get out of the bus and enjoy the dancing colours of the Aurora Borealis with warm juice and biscuits. A relaxing way to end your day in beautiful Kirkenes!
Keep in mind that the Aurora Borealis is a natural and unpredictable phenomenon, which means that, as much as your expert instructors want you to find them, it is possible that you won't be able to. Aside from that, you should remember to bring warm clothing of your own, especially thermal layers to wear under the suit that your instructors will lend you, and you should probably have dinner before the meeting time, since you will have some snacks during your Northern Lights hunt from Kirkenes, but not a full meal.
For an incredible adventure in Norway, book this Northern Lights hunt from Kirkenes today! You won't regret it.
