Activity description

Looking for an authentic Norwegian experience? Want to try something completely different? Join along an adventurous evening reindeer sledding trip on a local farm in Tromsø followed by a taste of local culture!

The Sami people, the original inhabitants of Scandinavia, have been living side by side with reindeer for centuries. You now have the chance to discover this amazing culture. You will be picked up from Tromsø center for this experience and be driven to the reindeer farm along a 25-minute long seaside road.

From the moment you arrive at the reindeer camp, you'll be warmly welcomed by the reindeer herders who will teach you about these amazing animals and their role in Sami culture. At the camp, you'll spot a herd of over 300 reindeer and another 1000 or so in the mountains running free!

You will then make your way to meet the herd, who might even eat from your hands, before enjoying a 15 to 20-minute sled ride. With only a small light per sled to light the path, you will be able to enjoy the twinkling night sky on this peaceful journey into the wilderness.

Afterward, you will enter a candlelit Gamme to enjoy a relaxed three-course meal. Sami stew will be served over an open fire. Then, you will move to the lavvu to gather and listen to the stories of Sami culture. The guide will also perform a joik (a traditional Sami song) to complete your experience with these natives of Lapland.

The camp is beautifully located in the middle of the wild. On a clear night, you might be lucky enough to catch the majestic northern lights!
