About the activity

Embark on a wonderful adventure in the stunning landscapes of Swedish Lapland and learn about the ancient Sámi culture of the region on this wonderful wild roaming reindeer feeding experience from Kiruna! The Sámi people are the only indigenous group in Europe. They have inhabited the northern region of Scandinavia for thousands of years and still live there, keeping their culture and traditions alive, and sharing them with the privileged travellers who take an interest in them. Reindeer herding is one such tradition, and the Sámi people have created such a deep bond with these creatures that they're able to let them roam freely through the Arctic forests of the Lapland region.

On the day of your reindeer feeding experience from Kiruna, you'll have two options, either an early morning tour at 8 am or a later tour at 10:30 am. Once you choose, you'll be picked up by your North Pow instructor in one of the listed locations (please check special terms and specify which one when booking). They'll give you a friendly welcome into their minibus and drive you toward the starting point of the experience. There, you'll meet the expert Sámi herder with over 40 years of experience. Next, you'll be outfitted with warm winter clothing, snowmobile boots, a hat, and gloves while the expert Sámi herder regales you with interesting facts about their profession and Sámi culture in general.

Once you're all geared up, you'll hop on a snowmobile-pulled sled and go! You'll be driven toward the Arctic, Swedish Lapland forest, where the reindeer dwell, and the sound of the snowmobile will attract them, so they'll approach to welcome you. You'll learn why feeding the reindeer is necessary during the winter and why it is a crucial responsibility for a herder, as well as how these creatures survive in the extreme weather of the region. Once you've fed the reindeer and spent time with them, you'll enjoy some warm lingonberry juice and cake before returning to the original starting point of the activity, returning the equipment, and driving back to Kiruna with fond memories of your wonderful day with the reindeer.

Keep in mind that the weather in Finnish Lapland is Arctic, so temperatures can range between 5 and -30 degrees Celsius. This means that, even though your instructor will lend you some winter clothing, you should come prepared with a first layer of wool or thermal clothing, then a middle layer of fleece or more wool, and an outer layer with a windproof and waterproof jacket and pants. You should also bring your own hat, gloves, scarf, and anything else you might need (medication, water, snacks, etc.) to spend an amazing moment on this 5 or 6-hour wild roaming reindeer feeding experience from Kiruna.

Don't miss out on a spectacular, authentic adventure in the stunning landscapes of Swedish Lapland. Book your wild roaming reindeer feeding experience from Kiruna today!
