Tahiti is renowned for its diverse range of outdoor activities, making it a top choice for adventure seekers. The island’s crystal-clear waters are ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling, with options such as guided exploration dives, PADI Open Water courses, and discovery sessions for beginners. For those fascinated by marine life, whale watching tours from Taravao, Puna'auia, and the Tahiti Peninsula offer the chance to observe majestic humpback whales and playful dolphins in their natural habitat, often accompanied by snorkelling opportunities.

Surfing is a must in Tahiti, home to the world-famous Teahupoo wave. Whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your skills, local guides provide surfing lessons and private courses tailored to all levels. Adventurous souls can also try kitesurfing, wingfoil, or jet ski tours across the lagoon for a rush of adrenaline.

On land, quad bike excursions in the Maroto valley or to Vaihiria lake reveal the island’s lush interior, while canyoning in the Papenoo Valley’s lavatubes offers a unique way to experience Tahiti’s wild side. For a different perspective, tandem skydiving, paragliding flights, and helicopter tours provide breathtaking aerial views of the island’s dramatic landscapes. When to visit Tahiti?

Tahiti enjoys a tropical climate, making it a year-round destination for outdoor activities. The dry season, from May to October, is considered the best time to visit, with pleasant temperatures, lower humidity, and calmer seas—ideal for diving, snorkelling, and hiking. This period also coincides with the humpback whale migration (July to November), offering exceptional opportunities for whale watching.

The wet season, from November to April, brings warmer temperatures and occasional heavy showers, but it is also when the island’s waterfalls and valleys are at their most vibrant. Surfing conditions are excellent year-round, with the famous Teahupoo wave attracting surfers from around the globe. Regardless of the season, Tahiti’s natural beauty and adventure activities remain accessible, with local guides ensuring safe and memorable experiences.

Reaching Tahiti is straightforward, with regular international flights arriving at Faa’a International Airport near Papeete. It is recommended to book activities in advance, especially during the high season, to secure your preferred dates and times. We just wanted to be on the water and watch surfers on the wave, and that's exactly what we got!

We were so lucky the day we went out to have the opportunity to swim with a very curious junior humpback whale! He stayed with us for about 20-25 minutes and it was incredible. We were also the only boat with the whale at the time. I think it's important to emphasize (1) being comfortable snorkeling fast for quite a distance in open ocean is key to getting to the whales to enjoy your time with them; and (2) the type of contact we had this day is not the norm but, perhaps, the exception. We had an opportunity on two other occasions (with two other outfitters) to swim with whales and both times we ended up in the water but didn't get close to the whales, and we had friends who did a whale swim with yet another outfitter and didn't end up in the water although they saw whales from the boat. Any opportunity to see whales swimming in the open water is a unique opportunity and well worth it.

Well balanced adventure and fun. Definitely took us to the places we would never be able to go by ourselves. The hike, the big surf, the cave, all amazing experiences.
