Edinburgh: The Must-Do Activities

Edinburgh: What to do when you get there?

The capital of Scotland is famous for its stunning landscapes, vibrant city life and gothic architecture, which is why it’s not surprising that it has now added extreme sports to its growing list of reasons to visit the area.

Home to the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh is located in a strategic central point, giving you the chance to add a dose of daring to your long weekend trip. Whether you want to try canyoning, rafting, stand up paddling or hydrospeed, this colourful city has it all.

Canyoning lovers can explore Dollar Canyon and Alva Canyon in Clackmannanshire. Other local canyons include Keltneyburn Canyon and Bruar Canyon, both of which have endless abseils, water slides, waterfalls and natural pools.

Water sport junkies can go rafting on River Tay or River Tummel, or even stand up paddling in Aberfeldy. For those of you who really want to feel the currents can opt for a river bugging excursion on River Tummel.

Take in the sumptuous landscapes that are peppered with small lochs, craggy cliffs and interminable greenery. Hikers and rollerbladers can take advantage of the spectacular panoramas of the Firth of Forth from the promenade at Cramond to the North of Edinburgh. When the tide is out, a walk across its famous causeway will lead you to Cramond Island where you can have a picnic and watch the seabirds.

The party goers amongst you will be happy to know that the city hosts the annual Edinburgh Festival, a series of events that run between the end of July and early September each year. The best known of these events are the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The Midlothian Snowsports Centre is open all year round and houses Europe’s largest artificial ski slope for snow enthusiasts of all levels.

The whole experience was amazing. The instructors/guide were friendly, and helpful and a good laugh. Went on a stag do with a stag who couldn’t swim with no issues. Highly recommend and would love to come back again.
