Situated on the sun-drenched southwest coast of Tenerife, Costa Adeje offers a unique vantage point where the deep blue of the Atlantic meets the dramatic volcanic coastline of the Canary Islands. Here, the interplay of light on the water, the gentle sway of the ocean, and the backdrop of the Teide volcano create an atmosphere that is both tranquil and exhilarating. The region’s mild climate and clear skies make it an inviting destination year-round, while the proximity to lively towns like Playa de las Américas and the natural wonders of the Teno Rural Park add layers of discovery to every visit.

Embarking on a whale watching excursion from Costa Adeje is an experience defined by anticipation and awe. Boats typically depart from the bustling Puerto Colón marina, gliding past rugged cliffs and golden beaches before reaching the deeper waters between Tenerife and the neighbouring island of La Gomera. This stretch of ocean is renowned for its resident populations of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins, which can often be seen surfacing in the shimmering sunlight or gliding gracefully beneath the waves. The journey, usually lasting two to three hours, is punctuated by moments of stillness as the boat drifts in silence, broken only by the gentle splash of a fin or the distant call of seabirds. The contrast between the open sea’s vastness and the intimate encounter with these majestic creatures is unforgettable, offering both excitement and serenity.

Local guides in Costa Adeje are passionate ambassadors for the marine environment, combining deep knowledge of the Atlantic ecosystem with a commitment to safety and responsible wildlife observation. Each excursion is led by licensed professionals who provide expert commentary, ensuring guests understand the behaviour and biology of the whales and dolphins encountered. Modern vessels are equipped with safety gear and comfortable seating, and accessibility is a priority, with many boats accommodating families and those with limited mobility. The outdoor culture here is rooted in respect for nature, and guides adhere to strict codes of conduct to minimise disturbance to marine life, reflecting Tenerife’s broader dedication to sustainable tourism.

Whale watching in Costa Adeje is accessible to a wide range of participants, from curious beginners to seasoned wildlife enthusiasts. While no previous experience is required, a moderate level of physical fitness is recommended, as guests may need to move around the boat or stand for extended periods. The calm waters and stable weather conditions make this activity suitable for children and adults alike, with the best sightings typically occurring between November and April, when marine life is most active. So much fun. You are in a small group which makes such a difference. Max, Maxi and David were brilliant, so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back again. There was a turtle but we sadly missed it. All the kayaker screamed and jumped in at once to see it and frightened it away. We did see lots of fish. We also saw dolphins on the way back, including a baby one. What a laugh we all had together on the way back, bobbing up and down whilst holding on. I wanted to get back in the dingy and do it all again. Definitely a trip for all ages. My sister and I are 54 and 57. Been on quite a few trips over the years. This was definitely the most fun. It was a great experience. Daniel was a very good pilot. Lots of photos and videos were taken. These could be purchased at the end of experience

Daniel was full of knowledge and skill. He put your mind as ease and was patient whist we waited for the weather to calm down. The ride itself covered high and low ground and we went along the coast seeing the sites.
