When to visit Åre?

The best time to visit Åre depends on the experiences you seek. Winter, from December to April, is the prime season for snow-based activities such as dog sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. During these months, the landscape transforms into a snowy paradise, and the chances of witnessing the northern lights are highest, especially on clear nights.

Spring brings longer days and milder temperatures, ideal for outdoor excursions with less crowds. While some activities may be limited as the snow melts, late winter and early spring still offer excellent conditions for snowshoe hikes and reindeer encounters. For those interested in gastronomy and cultural experiences, the winter months also coincide with local culinary events and traditions. Plan your visit according to your preferred activities, and always check availability with your guide in advance.

Amazing experience! Dogs were very friendly and well cared for. We were taken on the sled through woods and over a frozen lake. We were asked if we wanted to go further than the agreed 16km and offered coffee to warm ourselves up afterwards
