Course of events
You should plan to spend around 8.5 hours on this activity:
- 8:45 - Arrival at the meeting point and introduction to your driver
- Hop on the bus
- 9:00 - 90-minute scenic ride to Camp Tamok
- Arrival at the camp
- Equipment distribution
- Mushing (dog sledding) demonstration and safety briefing
- Start of your 20 to 30-minute dog sledding excursion around the Norwegian wilderness
- Switch drivers midway
- Return to the camp
- Delicious hot meal with warm drinks in a lávvu (indigenous Sámi tent) - a camp host will tell you where to go when it's over
- Visit the Ice Domes Snow Park
- Walk around on your own
- Spend time with the huskies and reindeer near the park
- Equipment return
- Drive back to Tromsø
- 17:00 - Drop-off at the original meeting point and end of the activity
Activity requirements
Please arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before your departure time, as indicated in the itinerary.
The maximum weight to participate in this activity is 120kg.
The minimum and maximum ages to participate in this activity are 16 to 65.
Please be advised that this tour is a high-level, physically demanding experience. Although the dogs are well-trained and love to run, teamwork is needed duirng the ride as drivers will have to help and push the sled together with the pack uphill and downhill. The trail can be narrow and have sharp bends, which requires a good balance to steer the sled. The guides are entitled to deny drivers and passengers from joining this tour for health and safety reasons.
Please be prepared for outdoor weather conditions, which can be harsh and unpredictable during the Arctic winter. Temperatures often drop below freezing, with averages ranging from -10°C to -20°C.

Your dog sledding, Ice Dome, reindeer adventure near Tromsø begins with a pick-up from the city centre, where you will embark on a 90-minute scenic ride, admiring the mesmerising landscapes and white-washed mountains of the Arctic. Upon arrival at Camp Tamok, you will receive warm winter overalls, hats, mittens, and boots, and follow a safety briefing and a mushing (dog sledding) demonstration with special techniques. Once you're set, you will head out to meet the huskies who will take you on an unforgettable journey into the Arctic wilderness. Each sled will be shared between two participants, with the opportunity to swap drivers during the experience.
The dogs are well-trained and love to run, but as teamwork is essential, there will be parts of the trip where you will have to help and push the sled together with your pack. Depending on the snow conditions, the dog sledding ride is approximately 20-30 minutes. After the tour, you'll relax by the roaring fire in a traditional reindeer herder's tent (lávvu), and enjoy a delicious and locally produced warm meal.
Once you've recharged, you will head to the Ice Domes Snow Park and admire the magical icy sculptures. Wander around a mesmerising display of snow and ice sculptures, a snow maze, and explore the two domes that give the park its name. Marvel at the amazing art coming to life with clever lighting in its natural surroundings of pristine nature and peaceful Arctic landscapes. You will then have some free time to meet the reindeer and huskies, right next to the Snow Park, before heading back to Tromsø.
