Don't miss out on a once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore the velvety Arctic night and even see the Northern Lights on an evening reindeer sleigh ride from Rovaniemi! For generations, reindeer sledding has been used by the Sámi people and Scandinavian locals as a practical way to move around the snowy landscapes of Lapland. Around Rovaniemi, the capital of Finnish Lapland, reindeer herders breed, care for, and train the animals to keep them safe, and show this ancient tradition to visitors from around the world through amazing tours around the region's wilderness.
On the day of your evening reindeer sleigh ride from Rovaniemi, you'll have the option to be picked up in certain spots around the city or to arrive at the meeting point at least 20 minutes before the starting time of the experience. At the Safartica headquarters, you'll meet your expert instructor, who will give you a thorough safety briefing and distribute the high-quality equipment you'll use throughout the day, which will include a thermal suit, snow boots, gloves, a scarf, woollen socks, and a beanie. Your instructor will drive you to the reindeer farm and introduce you to the herder. They'll prepare your sleigh, and when you're ready, you'll hop on. Next, the adventure truly starts! You'll dive into the Arctic night, enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the forest, and setting your eyes on the sky every once in a while to see if the Northern Lights make an appearance. After 3 kilometres and approximately 45 minutes, you'll return to the reindeer farm and enjoy hot drinks in a Finnish 'kota' as your instructor tells you stories about the reindeer.
Keep in mind that, although your instructor will provide you with good-quality winter equipment, you should also come prepared with thermal layers and a windproof and waterproof jacket to wear under the suit if it's very cold outside. You should also bring a hat, a scarf, warm winter shoes, a hat, and anything else you might need (medication, extra snacks) to spend approximately 2 hours on this amazing evening reindeer sleigh ride from Rovaniemi!
