High above the Norwegian Sea, the Vikingveggen Via Ferrata offers an exciting way to discover the rugged coastline around Bodø from a completely different perspective. Follow the rock face upwards and enjoy spectacular views across the sea, islands, and the Nordland coastline along the way. Designed as an introduction to Via Ferrata, this guided adventure is an ideal choice for your first climbing experience.
Located just outside Bodø, Vikingveggen climbs the southern face of Festvågtind, a small mountain rising behind Bratten Activity Park. The setting brings together the characteristic landscapes of Northern Norway: rocky mountain terrain, open sea and panoramic coastal views stretching across the Landegofjord and the islands beyond. The Via Ferrata combines hiking and climbing, with steel cables and fixed handholds helping you progress safely along the mountain face.
Your experience begins at Bratten Activity Park, where you will meet your guide at the designated meeting point and receive your climbing equipment and instructions. Before setting off, your guide will give you a thorough safety briefing and explain how to use the Via Ferrata equipment. You remain connected to the steel safety cable throughout the climb.
From the meeting point, the approach to the Via Ferrata takes approximately 20 minutes through the surrounding pine forest. Once you reach the route, the climbing begins along the mountain face, with around 250 metres of vertical ascent. The climbing section takes approximately 90 minutes, giving you time to progress at the group's pace while taking in the changing views over the coast.
Vikingveggen is specifically designed for first-time Via Ferrata participants. The route is challenging enough to provide a real sense of achievement while remaining accessible to people without previous climbing experience. Along the way, your guide remains with you to provide instructions and assistance whenever needed.
After completing the climb, you will descend via a marked walking trail on the back of the mountain before returning to the meeting area. Ready to experience the Norwegian coast from above? Vikingveggen combines an accessible climbing adventure with spectacular views over the Norwegian Sea, making it a memorable way to discover Bodø and the surrounding landscapes.
