Activity description
Did you know that there are more polar bears in Svalbard than people?
Enjoy this 180 kilometer snowmobile tour on the untouched, icy East Coast of Svalbard and see the island's native polar bears!
Far up in the North, between the North Pole and Norway, are the Svalbard islands. Discover complete wilderness and experience unique wildlife during this incredible snowmobile activity!
Roughly 3000 polar bears live around Spitsbergen and Longyearbyen during the winter months. The best chances of seeing one are on the East coast in Spitsbergen, which is hard of access without guides due to its immense desert valleys.
On this adventure, our expert guides will pave the way Eastwards by snowmobile, across glaciers and seemingly eternal glossy white valleys of ice. The ride is long but easy, and accessible to all levels of fitness. You will experience breathtaking Arctic landscape as you glide through the cold climate of the Svalbard archipelago. From the top of the glaciers, we will stop in the midst of deafening silence and magnificent nature and take in the views. The two remote and uninhabited islands of Barents and Edgeøya will be visible from the ice summits we reach.
Beware now! This is the realm of the polar bears and we must remain on guard. We are not permitted to track down the White Bears, so we will use our binoculars to observe these majestic creatures from a safe distance.
In this region, where we are mere guests to the polar bears who roam the ice, surrounded by wild sea and ancient glaciers, we get to experience the real Svalbard. Book now for one of the most awe-inspiring experiences of raw wilderness in the Arctic North.
An approximate itinerary of our snowmobile excursion will have us leave from Longyearbyen in the direction of the glacier of Königsbergbreen on the East Coast. We will travel through the ravines of Eskerdalen and Sassendalen, as well as the glacier of Rabotbreen.
