Activity description

The Svalbard Islands are located far up in the North in the Arctic Ocean  – basically in the middle of nowhere between Norway and the North Pole – so better make sure to dress appropriately for this frosty and unique experience in the snow!

This very special snowmobile trip will lead you to the west coast of Spitsbergen. This area has been used by miners and trappers for decades. And many of them were Russians. Svalbard's second -argest settlement Barentsburg is roughly 60 km away from Longyearbyen and is commonly known as "Little Russia" – so don’t be surprised to see a statue of Lenin at the entrance of the town.

During the ride through the snow, you will experience the wild and breathtaking nature of Svalbard as you drive through the valleys of Todalen, Bødalen, and Colesdalen.

If the weather conditions are good, you will make a brief stop at the abandoned mining ghost town of Coles Bay, before continuing all the way along the coast to Barentsburg. Once you arrive there, you get the chance to enjoy an authentic Russian lunch at the Hotel Barentsburg followed by a small tour around the settlement.

Now it's time to head back to Longyearbyen and you will pass Grøndalen and the glacier Tavlebreen. In case the weather is nice, you will drive to the top and enjoy the view over the Fjord Van Mijenfjorden.

What are you waiting for? Book this trip for an exciting trip around the Arctic island!

You can choose to purchase an optional snowmobile insurance policy for NOK 200 from the guide of this activity. In case of an accident with your snowmobile, you will not have to pay a fee to cover the damages (the snowmobiles are insured up to NOK 6000). If you wish to share a snowmobile as a driver and passenger, then you only need the insurance for one person. The minimum required age for passengers is 12.

This guide has 6 snowmobiles available. In case you are booking as a group, please be aware that there can be only 6 drivers. Each snowmobile can fit the driver and passenger. Driver and passenger can switch though during the activity.
