Activity description

Embark on a thrilling self-drive dog sledding adventure in Tromsø, leading your own pack of loyal and energetic huskies through the snowy terrains of Northern Norway, surrounded by the arctic mountain landscapes and scenic fjords!

Dog sledding is one of the oldest methods of transportation in the Arctic, and has a special connection with the locals. Are you ready to take the lead and learn what it takes to be a musher? No previous experience is needed to mush your own husky team, all you need is a reasonable physical health and eagerness to try something new!

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from the city center in Tromsø where you will meet your guides and hop on a scenic 90-minute bus ride towards the wilderness center in Camp Tamok. Once you've reached the camp, you will be provided with warm winter clothing and follow a thorough safety instruction and a practical demonstration of mushing techniques. After you've met your new furry friends, it is time to head out in the wild and immerse yourself in the Nordic culture!

As this is a hands-on experience, two people will share each sled, one riding while the other one can sit back and enjoy the ride (you will switch midway) The trail is 12-kilometers long, and approximately 1 and half an hour long depending on the snow conditions of the day. Prepare to ride along some breathtaking sceneries, taking in the cold crisp Arctic air while feeling the thrill of riding the sled with your own pack of Alaskan huskies!

After the trip, your guide will lead the way to a traditional reindeer herder's tent where you will enjoy a delicious Norwegian stew or soup by the campfire, complemented with bread, tea, and water. Savor the flavors and cherish the moments with your loved ones, while learning about the Nordic culture and the life in the Arctic.

Once you've warmed up, it is time to say goodbye to the huskies, and board the bus, returning back to Tromsø with some lifelong memories of this unique excursion. Unleash your inner adventurer and book your self-drive dog sledding excursion in Tromsø for a day-long immersion in the Nordic wilderness and culture!

Das Hundeschlitten fahren war super. Für mich war es daher zu kurz.

The activity is a bit challenging, especially when helping the dogs push the sled, but it was a worthwhile experience. My group and I enjoyed the ups and downs of the changing terrain. Felt like it wasn’t enough time!

Super avec un repas à la fin

Great experience in stunning surroundings

All went super well

So much fun - would definitely do again. Recommending the morning bus and dog sledding activity. You’ll get more daylight to see the amazing scenery and where you’re driving the sled. They also are not kidding about being in good physical condition. If you can do one full pull up, have a decent core, and either hike or run, you’ll do great.

My friend and I had the most wonderful time sledding with the most wonderful dogs. The scenery was beautiful, we had so much fun and the dogs were fantastic and so friendly. We will recommend this to everyone.

  • 5 / 5

Fantastic activity ! Amazing nature, I will recommend it around me for sure ! So much fun doing it!

  • 5 / 5

It was very fun and well organized. The guides were very friendly.

  • 5 / 5

I loved that both of us had enough time to push the sled. And it was great that each ride was adventurous and had some hills/more difficult turns. The lunch provided after was great too! We desperately needed it after all the work we've done with the sled. And the dogs - my Lisa! Miss her.

Cadre magnifique. Notre guide Patricia était au top. Très gentille et pleine d’explications. Nos enfants ont adorés.

  • 5 / 5

Loved it. Was so much fun. The dogs are so happy pulling the sleds along.

Superbe activité dans un cadre magnifique

  • 5 / 5

Super beau ! Merci à l'équipe.

Loved it!

  • 4 / 5

The husky sledging was exhilarating and challenging. Anna was a superb and caring guide. It was special to feel part of the pack. I loved getting to know our dogs afterward. They are so beautiful, well looked after and excited. The loan clothes were super, the meal in the lavva was really tasty, plentiful and special and we got to see the northern lights fill up the sky, beautiful. The bus driver was kind and drove well. An excellent experience, thank you.

  • 5 / 5

Eine Fahrt durch eine wunderschöne Winterlandschaft. Ein Selbstfahrererlebnis, das jeder bewältigen kann. Die Hunde sind super konditioniert und trainiert.

  • 5 / 5

Mind blowing activity. Well organised, very nice staff very caring and a lot of respect for the dogs and nature . Delicious meal in a warm tent to finish well the day ! Beautiful landscapes

  • 5 / 5

Highly recommended

  • 5 / 5

It was just amazing!! It was easy to understand how to control the sled and we had an amazing experience doing the dog sledding in the evening under the stars in the woods :) It was definitely the highlight of our whole journey and would like to do it again ! We also had the chance to see the northern lights at the end !!

Very nice staff, dogs, and activity overall! I recommend it :)

  • 5 / 5

A faire absolument.

  • 4.5 / 5

Some dogs are running a little slow. I realize that it is safety reasons, but it was a little disappointing.

  • 5 / 5

Fun fun fun! The dogs are anxious to run and have fun as well, they are treated well and respected.

  • 5 / 5

The whole experience was incredible!

  • 5 / 5

  • 4.8 / 5

Great first experience

  • 4 / 5

Dog sledding is definitely a must when visiting Norway in winter and I’m so glad we did it! However, it is much harder than it looks and you definitely need a good level of fitness. There was a lot of snow when we did it which meant that we had to run and push the sled (a lot) to give the dogs a hand. The dogs are absolutely gorgeous and love all of the attention and fuss. I would recommend doing this during the day (we did it at night) as I think it’d be better as you’d be able to see more and enjoy the beautiful landscape. All in all a great activity and we really enjoyed it!

  • 4.8 / 5

So much fun and more intense than we expected! The dogs are so strong and powerful. Did flip off our sled quite hard and smacked into some trees so was a bit more cautious after this

  • 5 / 5

We did ice fishing and dog sledding. The dog sledding was long enough to enjoy the view and it was really fun. We could not fish anything but it was a very peaceful moment on the iced lake with one of the few suns that appear in winter

  • 5 / 5

Super easy und super fun!

  • 5 / 5

L’activité était très bien. Nous avons passé un super moment.

  • 4.8 / 5

I loved it.

  • 5 / 5

Upon arrival at the camp we were warmly greeted by the instructors whom guided us through the day with utter contempt about their role and a sheer will for us to have new and amazing experiences in that marvelous spot. Would fully recommend to any dog and nature lovers.

  • 5 / 5

A must-do! I cannot put in words how great the feeling was.

  • 5 / 5

  • 5 / 5

Tres bel endroit

  • 5 / 5

The feeling of the ice cold air against your face as you’re being pulled along by 5 adorable dogs; unbeatable. Seeing the snow covered mountains around you as you meander through the trees in the dark of the night is purely magical. I’d do this again and again and again.

  • 5 / 5

The whole dog sledding was fun filled and the best experience of all. We wouldn't trade this for any other activities although our friends who went snowmobiling were telling us how much fun they had. The scenery when we stopped to take a short break was simply breathtaking and the dogs were so energetic and powerful. Overall it is a highly recommended a must-do activity.

  • 5 / 5

Although we did the evening excursion hoping to see the northern lights it did not matter that we did not because it was such an unreal experience all around with every other factor :))

  • 5 / 5

It was by far one of the best experience I've had in my life so far. Well-treated and friendly dogs and feeling the wind in your face as well as being between the mountains give us an indescribable feeling of freedom. Only a side comment as a possible improvement (it's not a criticism), providing pictures while we are sledding in the best spot during the track would be a good idea : )

  • 5 / 5

The sledding was so much fun! The dogs were all friendly and ready to run the whole route. Both participants are able to be both a passenger and driver. The scenery was beautiful and the ride was the perfect length at an hour and a half. Your legs definitely get tired after the roughly 45 minutes of driving you will do! The traditional Sami dish after was also great.

  • 5 / 5

  • 5 / 5

The dogs were very friendly and clearly excited to run! It was great fun - both of us were able to try being the driver and passenger so a good mix of taking in the scenery plus an exhilarating ride. Warm food and drinks were very welcome afterwards and all added to the experience!

  • 5 / 5

We went dog sledding at night, and it was just fantastic - really well organised, really fun and whilst other reviews suggest it is hard work, dog sledding is accessible and easy for anyone that has a reasonable fitness level. I would definitely come back again!

  • 5 / 5

Very well organised. Simple clear instructions. Made you feel welcome and glad you chose to come.

Great dog sled tour through beautiful nature. We had a lot of fun even though we had bad luck with our Group. Dog sledding requires a good physical condition (as mentioned in the discription!) so don't book a self-drive tour if you're not even able to run! And I don't understand why People want to do this although they do not really like Dogs?! So we had to stop during the tour very often and unfortunately missed out time with the dogs after sledding. But that's not the fault of the host. We enjoyed the time with the Dogs and the meal afterwards anyway.

  • 5 / 5

I really enjoyed it. Amazing experience!

Enjoyed it very much, but it's definitly physically demanding.

  • 5 / 5

It was amazing trip with a beautiful view

  • 5 / 5

Thrilling experience, powerful dogs and fun route

  • 5 / 5

Activité très très bien. Accueil génial

  • 3.8 / 5

Activité de nuit sympathique, bon accueil

  • 5 / 5

Thoroughly enjoyed it! Can be physically demanding. These dogs have so much power and can pick up speed so quickly so hold on tight always. So much fun.

  • 5 / 5

Essential to wear all warm clothing (-20 during evening), especially 2 pairs of gloves..invigorating going down hill, but quite physical helping the dogs up the slope!..best sled would be right behind instructor, as we had to regularly stop behind a slower run sled in front of us, very frustrating as we wanted to mush faster! The food was well earned after activity, and we also had a glimpse of the Northern Lights...fantastico...thank you Norway!

  • 5 / 5

It is a very fun and security activity. Beautiful views and enjoy too much with huskys.

  • 5 / 5

The dog sledding was amazing

  • 4.5 / 5

It was an awesome experience. Only issue was the group was so large if someone wasn't following instructions, the rest of the convoy would have to stop while issues were resolved. This activity is not for those who want to be leisurely . Keep in mind that while going up hill you must assist the dogs by pushing the sled or running . Those who did not held up the procession.

  • 5 / 5

It was very fun and nice view of lyngen alp
