Activity description

Experience the magic of the Northern Lights and the thrill of dog sledding on this overnight excursion from Tromsø! Welcoming adventurers ages 3 and up.

Located in Northern Norway, Tromsø is one of Scandinavia's premier travel destinations and is known for its picturesque Arctic wilderness and numerous outdoor activities in the winter months. What better way to discover the 'Tromsø experience' than by embarking on a fun-filled overnight adventure that includes dog-sledding, delicious local food, and traditional accommodations in a comfortable Lavvu tent?

Your adventure begins in Tromsø, where you will be picked up at the meeting point. You and your group (a maximum of 10 participants) will be taken on a scenic 25-minute drive to the camp. Upon your arrival, you will be greeted by your seasoned guide and provided with thermal overalls and booths for you to stay warm and relax while waiting for the incredible natural spectacle of the Northern Lights. Then, your guide will take you to the kennel where you'll meet and cuddle the adorable Alaskan Huskies. Afterwards, you'll be treated to a traditional dinner in a warm Gamme hut. You can try Bacalao, a traditional Norwegian fish dish made from locally sourced cod (vegetarian alternatives are available upon request, please specify when booking).

After your meal, you'll enjoy a relaxing evening around a roaring bonfire. Since you're far away from the city lights of Tromsø, you'll witness the breathtaking natural phenomenon of the Northern Lights. (Please be advised that from March 19th onwards, this portion of the activity will be replaced with fun-filled evening snowshoeing). When you get tired, you can head to your Lavvu tent that you will share with the other guests. Furnished with soft reindeer skins and high-quality camping gear, you'll be cosy as you wrap yourself in a warm sleeping bag and enjoy the northern night.

The next day, after a delicious breakfast, you will be taken on a dog sledding adventure. (Both self-drive or driven dog sled ride options are available, please specify when booking.) Your guide will provide a safety briefing along with dog sledding techniques, also known as mushing. Be prepared for a rush of adrenaline as you traverse the snowy landscapes of Norway's wilderness pulled by an energetic team of Alaskan huskies! Back at the camp, you will be served a hot lunch of Bidos (Sami reindeer stew) to re-energize before saying goodbye to your four-legged friends and returning to the original departure point in Tromsø.

It was absolutely amazing. I can say it was my best day ever.

great experience, "gentle" dogs, friendly guides, you can feel the love of the guides to the dogs In case you and your family want to get a first "taste" of dog sledding, absolutely recommended

It was a great experience. We booked the dog sledding including the overnight stay. The dog sledding could be a bit longer, though.

The activities were extremely well planned from the overnight stay down to the end of the dog sledding activity. The hosts explained everything in great detail and gave ample time for us to interact with the dogs. The hut that we lived in was extremely cozy and warm as well, an experience that I must recommend. You can tell that the hosts were extremely passionate about their jobs and it definitely fuelled my excitement for the activities. The meals that they provided were so good I had to keep getting seconds. I would definitely recommend signing up for both the overnight stay & dog sledding experience!

Le lieu et le staff est parfait, mais l'activité était bien plus courte qu'annoncée.

The dogs were very motivated and seemed well-cared for; it's great that they can choose themselves whether they want to be pet or stay in their houses. We did not see the northern lights, but had a really nice time regardless. The tent for the overnight stay was cosy and the food was great too

Great people, very fun to meet the dogs, we loved staying overnight too.

Awesome, it was a great experience, staying overnight in the camp, the dog sliding, perfect organized by a great team

  • 5 / 5

This was truly a once in a lifetime experience. We arrived to the camp and got to play with the dogs immediately. The staff was so friendly in welcoming us ands showing us to our lavuu. Once we dropped our belongings off we were given our suits and show to the dog area. After a few hours of seeing the dogs we were shown to the dinner hut and fed fish soup which was perfect after being outside in the cold. Mid dinner we were interrupted by the staff alerting us that the Aurora was out. Staying in the lavuu we had full access to the dogs and the fire pits all night. The next morning we were given an excellent breakfast before getting our suits on to go dog sledding. This whole experience was phenomenal and was finished off with a reindeer stew. I can not recommend this whole experience enough! It was truly amazing.

Beautifully organised. The whole experience was insanely glorious.

The night camp was amazing. We had time to spend with the dogs but definitely not enough time on the sledges!

  • 5 / 5

The people are really special; they love what they do and they love the dogs. Spending the night in the lavuu was a blast. Seeing the dogs was amazing: they are so smart and beautiful and so, so affectionate. It was a great activity.
