Step into the silent, pristine boreal forests surrounding Kiruna for an authentic Sami survival training experience in Swedish Lapland! Subarctic nature presents a severe yet captivating wilderness where specialized traditional knowledge is essential for remaining safe and comfortable in both deep winter snow and summer terrain. Kiruna, located over 140 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, lies within Sápmi, the cultural region inhabited for millennia by the indigenous Sami people whose survival relies on an intimate, ancestral understanding of the subarctic ecosystem.
Under the expert guidance of a local Sami instructor, you will journey into the woods to learn time-honored bushcraft techniques passed down through generations. You will discover how to identify and select the exact wood required to ignite and sustain a campfire, master traditional methods for dressing against harsh weather, and learn seasonal foraging skills to discover natural food sources available throughout the year. As you navigate the forest floor, your guide will reveal how to decode animal tracks left in the snow or soil, teaching you how arctic wildlife moves and adapts. In small groups, you benefit from an intimate learning atmosphere and personal instruction.
This educational outdoor session is tailored to all ability levels and requires only gentle walking over a maximum distance of 1 kilometre. It offers a reassuring environment for families with children who warmly welcomed alongside adults. To keep you completely warm and protected, cover clothes and specialized footwear are provided for the duration of the tour.
Running across both snow-covered winter days and mild summer afternoons, this hands-on workshop provides vital knowledge for anyone exploring the far north. Reserve your Sami survival training in Kiruna today and master the ancestral skills of the Arctic!
