Corte: What to do when you get there ?
Corte is the best spot for hiking, canyoning and rock climbing. It is located in the centre of Corsica, only 68km south of Bastia and 80km north of Ajaccio, the 2 biggest cities of the island. It is the cultural and historical town of the island which hosts the museum of Corsica.
If you want to know more about the history and traditions of Corsica, go visit the National Museum of Anthropology on the top of Corte citadel. The citadel was built around a castle of the 15th century at the top of a rock that overlooks the town. It is also part of the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe because it tracks the history of the French Emperor Napoléon Bonaparte.
Corte is also located in the Parc Naturel Régional de Corse, a unique place for hiking and canyoning. In the north of the town, you will find the highest mountain on the island, Monte Cinto. It rises to more than 2 700 m and is surrounded by several lakes.
Hikers and climbers will fall in love with the Gorges de la Restonica. It is a valley which offers different hiking trails and rock climbing routes on cliffs and high mountains. Everything is at your disposal to enjoy your activity and you can even take a plunge in one of the natural bathing pools at the end of your trail. Canyoning in Corsica is famous worldwide! Verghellu and Frascaghu canyons are ones of the best canyons on the island of beauties. Frascaghu canyon is suitable for people who want to have an amazing moment with their family. Located in the heart of Valdoniellu forest, this aquatic canyoning adventure will probably leave you speechless. The colors, waterfalls, slides, jumps and abseils make it an entertaining and enchanting canyon. The experimented guides will show you the fauna and flora of the valley and share their experience in this unique spot.
If you are fond of nature, try out Verghellu canyon. It is one of the most complete and fun canyons you can find in Corsica. Everything is planned so that you have a great and fun time, but not too difficult! Both canyons are totally feasible for beginners.
