To sail in Hvar is to immerse yourself in the crystalline heart of the Adriatic, where the interplay of sun, sea and wind creates a setting both invigorating and serene. This Croatian island, nestled between Split and Korčula, is famed for its indented coastline, fragrant pine forests and the vibrant hues of lavender fields. The town of Hvar itself, with its Venetian stone facades and lively harbour, serves as a gateway to a network of secluded coves, ancient fishing villages and the nearby Pakleni Islands. Sailing here is not just a means of travel but a way to experience the Dalmatian coast’s unique rhythm, where the scent of salt and rosemary lingers in the air and the water shimmers in shifting shades of blue.

Setting out from Hvar’s historic port, sailors are greeted by gentle breezes and the soft slap of waves against the hull. Routes often trace the southern shores, passing beneath the limestone cliffs of Sveta Nedjelja or weaving between the Pakleni archipelago’s islets, where hidden beaches and turquoise lagoons invite exploration. A typical sailing excursion can last from a few hours to several days, with options ranging from leisurely coastal cruises to more challenging open-water passages towards Vis or Brač. The experience is a dynamic blend of tranquillity and adventure: moments of quiet as the sails fill and the boat glides silently, punctuated by the thrill of tacking into a brisk mistral or anchoring in a sunlit bay. The contrasts are striking—bustling waterfronts give way to untouched coves, and the warmth of the sun is balanced by the refreshing spray of the sea.

Great day out exploring the Pakleni Islands, the kayak across from Hvar to the islands seems daunting at first but was really not too bad once you get into the swing of things. The guys were great and told us where to go and how long each paddle would take, what would be hard or easy and some general tips on how to use the kayak. Really recommend this for anyone with a decent sense of adventure.

We had an afternoon slot of sea kayaking around Hvar which included some time to swim in the open water, snorkel around a bay and dinner in a little island restaurant. Would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a chance to explore the islands and have fun doing it!

We loved this! You are free to go on your own space and where you like. We got good instructions for where to go. The islands are beautiful and the kayking is a fun activity. We are not experienced kayakers at all, but it went really well, not too hard!
