Must-do activities in Sainte-Suzanne River

Sainte-Suzanne River is a hub for outdoor activities that showcase the natural beauty and cultural richness of Reunion Island. The highlight for adventure seekers is the Canyon of Bassin Bœuf, where you can embark on a guided descent through waterfalls, natural pools, and lush tropical vegetation. This canyoning experience is accessible to both beginners and those with some experience, offering a mix of jumps, slides, and abseils under the supervision of expert guides.

For those who prefer to explore on two wheels, motorbike trips departing from Sainte-Suzanne River open up the island’s most iconic landscapes. Ride towards Cilaos, Salazie, or the legendary Piton de la Fournaise volcano, each route culminating in a meal at an authentic Creole restaurant. These journeys combine the exhilaration of the open road with the flavours and hospitality of Reunion’s culinary heritage.

If you are looking for a more relaxed way to discover the region, guided van tours in eastern Reunion Island and Saint-Denis provide a comfortable and informative option. Led by knowledgeable local professionals, these tours reveal the island’s history, architecture, and natural wonders, making them ideal for families or anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the area.

When to visit Sainte-Suzanne River?

The best time to visit Sainte-Suzanne River depends on your preferred activities and weather conditions. Reunion Island enjoys a tropical climate, with the dry season running from May to November. During these months, temperatures are pleasant, humidity is lower, and outdoor activities such as canyoning and motorbike trips are at their most enjoyable. The wet season, from December to April, brings heavier rainfall, especially in the eastern regions, which can affect river levels and trail conditions. However, the lush landscapes during this period are particularly striking, and some activities may still be available with adjustments for safety. Always check with your guide before booking to ensure the best possible experience.

We loved everything: the abseiling, jumping off rocks, zip line, slide. Options if you don’t want to do these things.
