Skibotn is a small village located in the north of Norway, surrounded by beautiful mountains. As it is close to the Arctic Circle, the winter months feature snowy conditions, creating a beautiful scenic view. Kilpisjärvi in Finland borders Norway and is therefore a close destination to the valley. Skibotn offers great opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, skiing, and fishing. Dog sledding is also a popular authentic activity in the area!
This full-day excursion begins with pick-up from Kilpisjärvi. You will meet your experienced guide, who will drive you to Skibotn Valley. When you arrive at the farm, you will be introduced to the adorable and friendly Alaskan Huskies! These dogs are full of energy and love meeting new people. The guide will go through a dog mushing lesson and safety briefing. You will receive your Arctic gear and equipment, before getting set up on the sled. Each sled is shared between two, with one driver and one passenger and the opportunity to switch midway.
The adventure begins with the dogs pulling your sled into the snowy Arctic wilderness surrounding the farm. Under the guidance of the experienced dog musher, you will lead your dogs up the mountains to a breathtaking view of the Lyngen Alps. The panoramic view offers a glimpse of the stunning winter wonderland of the region. Midway through, you will pause for a break to take in the environment and capture some photos. Then, you will switch drivers and head back to the kennels. After saying goodbye to the dogs, you will be transported back to Kilpisjärvi.

For this excursion, you will drive in pairs, one driver and one passenger on the sled. You can switch during the ride.
Course of events
- Arrive at the meeting point in Kilpisjärvi 15 minutes in advance (transfer will leave at 11am)
- Drive to Skibotn Valley (approximately 45 minutes)
- Receive safety briefing and driving lesson
- The dog sledding adventure begins!
- Drive your sled for approximately 1 hour 45 minutes
- Return to the kennel
- Enjoy snacks and hot drinks
- Return to Kilpisjärvi (approximately 17:30)
Activity requirements
No previous experience is needed, however, participants must be in a reasonable physical condition to help the dogs pull the sled.
In addition, kindly be advised that children must be accompanied by an adult.
