Caving in the Port de l'Hers Chasm in Ariège

If you like challenges and the underground world doesn't scare you, then this caving trip to the Port de l'Hers chasm in Ariège is an experience you shouldn't miss! Around a 40-minute drive from Tarascon-sur-Ariège, this chasm is the deepest in the region at around -700 metres over 4 km, making it an exceptional site for caving in the Ariege Pyrenees.

Between vertical passages, large galleries, shafts up to 60-metre high and an underground river, you will be immersed underground for almost 11 hours, enough to delight not only thrill-seekers but also lovers of beautiful landscapes who will be delighted to discover unique scenery by torchlight, between lherzolite and pink marbled limestone. Accompanied by a professional instructor, you will reach a siphon at a depth of -400 metres, the ultimate goal of your caving trip in the Port de l'Hers chasm, where the temperature is around 8°C.
