Activity description

Embark on an enjoyable bike ride around mountainous villages in Durmitor, including Žabljak, Štuoc and Trsa. This is a difficult terrain suitable for experienced cyclists!

Montenegro is a beautiful country situated on the Balkan Peninsula, nestled between Croatia and Albania, with a narrow strip of coastline along the Adriatic Sea. Durmitor is a mountain range and national park located in northern Montenegro. It is renowned for its natural beauty, with rugged limestone peaks, deep river canyons, glacial lakes, and dense pine forests. This area is perfect for a challenging bike excursion!

The bike tour begins with pick up from your accommodation in Montenegro (please specify your location upon booking). You’ll enjoy a scenic drive to the starting point of the tour in Žabljak. From here, you’ll receive a safety briefing and your equipment (bike, helmet and gloves). Žabljak is a small town located in northern Montenegro, situated at the heart of the Durmitor mountain region. It is Montenegro's highest town, situated at an elevation of 1,456 meters (4,777 feet) above sea level, and surrounded by breathtaking mountain scenery.

The bike ride will begin, cycling from Žabljak via Pitomin to Momčilov Grad, passing unspoilt nature along the way. You’ll cycle to a viewpoint at Štuoc, the highest point of the tour. From here you’ll have a breathtaking view of Tara Canyon, the deepest canyon in Europe and the second deepest in the world. Then, you’ll begin the descent to the village of Mala Crna Gora, before arriving at the canyon of Sušica. There is a mountain lodge at the canyon, where you can rest and restore water supplies.

Sušica is home to a river that flows mostly underground. The beautiful Sušica Lake is found at the bottom of the canyon, a natural phenomenon. It fills with water when the snow melts from the surrounding mountains, and later it dries up and turns into a picturesque valley. After admiring the canyon, you’ll continue cycling to the village of Trsa. After an easy descent, you’ll cycle uphill again to Sedlena Greda, another fantastic viewpoint! You’ll then pass through the Pošćenski area as you head back towards the starting point. This area is next to the Savin Kuk Ski Resort, a popular ski centre during the winter months. The tour ends back at Žabljak, where you will be transferred to your accommodation.
