Just 25 minutes by road from Plužine, the Piva Canyon — carved over millions of years by the Piva River — is an outstanding natural site. With its sheer, towering cliffs, near-vertical rock faces and striking turquoise waters, it leaves a lasting impression on all who visit. Stretching for around 40 kilometres and reaching depths of over 1,200 metres, it is one of the most awe-inspiring canyons in the region. If you enjoy outdoor adventure and don’t suffer from vertigo, the Piva via ferrata is undoubtedly one of the best ways to explore this breathtaking landscape.
A thrilling blend of hiking and climbing, via ferrata follows a protected route fitted with fixed cables and features such as steps and steel rungs. No previous experience is required: a professional guide with expert knowledge of the Piva Canyon will accompany you throughout, adjusting the pace to ensure a rewarding and unforgettable experience. With groups limited to just 10 participants per guide, you’ll receive personalised advice and support to help you progress with confidence.
Along the route, you’ll enjoy exclusive viewpoints accessible only from the via ferrata, including dizzying perspectives over the canyon’s vertical limestone cliffs and the turquoise river far below. The itinerary forms a loop, beginning at the bridge over the Piva River before continuing along a forest trail to the Kaluđerska springs, where you can refill your bottle with fresh water. The traverse section runs just two metres above the water, before culminating in an impressive yet accessible 80-metre vertical climb with a slight overhang, leading you back up towards the bridge.
