The ideal time to visit Gramvousa is from May to early October, when boat services are frequent and the sea is warm enough for swimming. July and August bring the biggest crowds and hottest temperatures, so consider coming in June or September for a more relaxed experience with fewer visitors.

In spring, the surrounding hills are green and wildflowers bloom along the paths, while autumn offers golden light and a quieter atmosphere. Winter visits are rare and weather-dependent, as boat trips are limited and sea conditions can be rough.

The simplest way to reach Gramvousa is by boat from Kissamos, also known as Kastelli, a coastal town in northwestern Crete. The port is about a 45-minute drive from Chania and accessible by car or public bus.
