Plunging into the emerald waters of the Artuby Canyon offers an exhilarating journey at the gateway to the Verdon Gorge. Carved deep into limestone cliffs, the Artuby River forms one of the most stunning aquatic sanctuaries in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Known for its spectacular high jumps, pristine pools, and wild karst scenery, this canyoning route combines pure aquatic thrills with pristine natural wilderness. Guided by the passionate instructors at ROCKSIDERS, participants explore an uncrowded canyon where limestone formations have created natural waterfalls, deep swimming pools, and natural rock slides carved over millennia.
The adventure begins at a shaded grassy parking area equipped with picnic tables near the canyon entrance. After meeting your state-certified guide and getting equipped with Vade Retro neoprene wetsuits and Petzl helmets, a pleasant 15-minute approach walk leads down into the canyon bed. The descent starts gently with a series of progressive jumps that gradually increase in height, allowing everyone to build confidence in their technique. Highlight moments include sliding under natural waterfalls and reaching the famous "jump school" area, where thrill-seekers can attempt jumps ranging from 4 to 10 metres high into deep, clear water pools. Before concluding the canyon descent, your instructor takes the time to introduce abseiling techniques on rope in a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. A 30-minute return hike brings you back to the initial meeting area without the need for any vehicle shuttle.
This aquatic canyoning excursion in the Artuby Canyon is tailored for adventurous participants aged 10 and above who are in good physical shape and comfortable in deep water. To ensure an intimate and unhurried experience, ROCKSIDERS limits group sizes to a maximum of 8 participants per instructor. All high jumps are designed to be progressive, with safety remaining the top priority at every obstacle. The entire technical equipment is provided on site, though guests must bring closed athletic sneakers or hiking shoes suitable for walking in water.
Operating from June to September when water temperatures and river flow are optimal, this half-day adventure provides an exceptional vertical getaway in the Verdon region.
