The atmosphere here is relaxed yet energetic, shaped by a blend of Creole culture and the ever-present rhythm of the ocean. Diving in Saint-Gilles-les-Bains is a sensory journey, shaped by the interplay of warm currents, shifting sunlight, and the gentle hum of the reef. Most excursions begin at the marina, where the scent of salt and the distant call of seabirds set the tone for the adventure ahead. Typical dives range from shallow explorations suitable for beginners to deeper sites that challenge experienced divers, with durations usually between 40 minutes and an hour. The underwater landscape is a mosaic of coral bommies, lava arches, and sandy patches, home to turtles, eagle rays, and the occasional passing dolphin. Some routes follow the outer reef, where the drop-off plunges into the blue, while others wind through sheltered lagoons teeming with colourful reef fish. The contrasts are striking: moments of serene stillness as you drift past a sleeping moray eel, followed by bursts of excitement when a shoal of barracuda sweeps by. The water temperature remains inviting year-round, and the clarity often exceeds 20 metres, allowing divers to fully appreciate the vivid hues and subtle movements of the marine ecosystem.

Great kayak-trip with a very knowledgeable guide, who spoke English besides French (which is VERY hard to find on Reunion).
The trip was very good, shame the whales have decided to vacation elsewhere this year. At least we were able to snorkel with a pod of spinner dolphins. Geoff did a good job of explaining in french and English (for myself). Overall a good trip
